This month we are going to work on the ‘piano key’ rows (see circled image).

You will need to make two (2) rows of 24 keys each.  If you purchased Spencer’s Museum charm pack quilt kit, choose six (6) different fabrics of each of the four (4) colors for EACH row.  Cut your charm squares vertically in half, leaving you with two 2 1/2” x 5” strips per color.

Be sure to keep your colors together!

Sew your charm half-squares with a 1/4” seam allowance end-to-end, creating a 2 1/2” x 9 1/2” strip with each color.  Press to one direction.

Once you have pieced all of your keys, you will sew them together, long side to long side.  Be sure to flip your strips so that the pressed seams go in opposite directions.  Below is the pattern that BOMquilts.com created (Note:  Sew your keys in opposite directions.  This will help keep your rows from curving to one side):

That’s it for your second row instructions!  Stay tuned on June 16 for the next set of row instructions!
